Durgapur Barrage

#0 of 8 things to do in Durgapur

Durgapur Barrage is built across the Damodar River and was built mainly for irrigational purposes and also to supply water to the Industrial Township of Durgapur. The barrage is 692 metres in length and 12 metres high with around 34 gates. The barrage is to prevent the sorrow of Bengal or the Damodar River from causing floods, especially during monsoon when water levels rise quite high. Boats can also be hired for you to have a closer look of the river from the middle of it. The atmsophere is quite peaceful with surreal sunsets. It takes about twenty minutes to reach from the city centre.
