Bhabani Pathak was the leader of the Sanyasi Movement as well as a well known dacoit in Bengal. Legends say that he used to rob the rich and cruel and distribute the treasures among the needy and poor. He feautures in the stories of Devi Choudhurani as her leader and mentor. Bhabani Pathak's Tilla is a historical place visited by all those who come to Durgapur and rumoured to serve as the hideout or home to the famous dacoit. It is also said to have an underground tunnel that reaches River Damodar but has been supposedly closed by the Government. It is located at approximately 1.4 kilometres from the city centre and takes about 15 to 30 INR if you opt for public transport. The premises also have a small temple and stays open from the morning till the evening.
