Diu is a tiny island located in the southern tip of the Saurashtra, Gujarat. It was ruled over by several kings and dynasties before it became Portuguese colony in 1539 and remained so till the year 1961 when it became a union territory along with Goa. It was separated from Goa in 1987. Although it's often thought of as being part of Gujarat, this is incorrect. With Daman, it's actually a separate union territory known as Daman and Diu, and it has its own rules and government.

How to reach

With respect to connectivity, Diu is easily accessible from other cities of the country by air, road and rail.

How to Reach by Flight

There is one direct flight from Mumbai to Diu, which is an hour away. The Diu Aiprort, the closest airport is located at Nagoa about 7 km away from the city centre. It connects the town to other major cities of the country by air.

How to Reach by Train

The closest railway station is Veraval about 30 km away from Diu and it connects to the key cities of Gujarat – Ahmedabad and Rajkot and other cities too.

How to Reach by Bus

Jethibai bus stand is a point where one could find buses to Diu. Local buses from Diu town to Nagoa and Vanakbara leave Jethibai bus stand frequently.

From Una, buses run between Una bus stand and Diu during the day. during evenings and night, shared autorickshaws go to Ghoghla or Diu from Tower Chowk in Una.

How to Reach by Road

By road, travelers can avail numerous buses and private vehicles. With the wide network of roads which connects this island to the rest of Gujarat and Maharashtra, Diu is connected to Vapi for 13 kilometers and is linked to the Bombay- Ahmedabad national highway.

Private cars and hired taxis would take around 7 to 8 hours to reach Diu from Ahmedabad. 

How to travel within

To travel within Diu, you have mini-bus managed by the local tourism department. There are also options of auto rickshaws, taxis or rental motorcycles to reach various places in Diu.

One of the perfect and convenient option would be to rent a scooter for exploring the island. Check with the rates per day, the fuel and would need to submit any of your ID proof and also a minimal amount as a caution deposit.
