In the River Brahmaputra, the Peacock Island is found just in the centre; here stands the adored Umananda Temple, where the directing divinity is of Lord Shiva. The island is the world's littlest riverine island, which is possessed by individuals. The Shiva temple was worked in the island by the outstanding Shaivaite lord of the Ahoms, Gadadhar Singha. The temple is located over a mountain called Bhasmachala. As per the local legend, Lord Shiva used to dwell in this spot as Bhayananda. The temple houses various shake cut structures which demonstrates the stunning craftsmanship of the figures of the region. The temple in this manner has archaeological significances other than the religious one.
