Adam's Bridge

#2 of 5 things to do in Dhanushkodi

Adam’s Bridge also known as Ram Setu or Rama’s Bridge is the major tourist attraction of Dhanushkodi. This natural Bridge is made up of a chain of limestone shoals between the neighboring country Sri Lanka and India. This 50 km long unique bridge has a very interesting background from the mythological era of Ramayana along with researches done by NASA and other individual researchers who are very curious to know its origin. According to legend, this mythical Bridge was constructed by Lord Hanuman and his Vanara army as commanded by Lord Rama to cross the Indian Ocean to reach Sri Lanka, the abode of Demon King Ravana for rescuing Devi Sita. It is said that the stones were adorned with an inscription of Lord Rama’s Name and were believed to float in the water and form a bridge, although scientist revealed that it was due to sir trapped within a shell of silica. Starting from the shoals of Dhanushkodi, tourist can enjoy and explore this interesting landscape with the beauty of the ocean.
