Tapkeshwar Temple

#3 of 17 things to do in Dehradun

Tapkeshwar Temple is located 7 km from Dehradun City on the bank of the seasonal river Asan. Dedicated to Lord Shiva it is known as one of the ancient temples that holds the oldest Shivling in a cave. The holy temple got its name due to the continuous water droplets that drop on the Shivling, hence giving it the name of Tapkeshwar. As per local beliefs and legends, it is said that the Cave is named after the Guru of Pandavas and Kauravas, namely Dronacharya who once resided here with his wife who gave birth to their son Aswosthama in the same cave.
