Kalatop wildlife sanctuary

#5 of 13 things to do in Dalhousie

Kalatop Wildlife Sanctuary, recognized as a game reserve in 1949, lies between Dalhousie and Chamba. Located on the Outer Himalayas, the terrain here is quite steep and treacherous. At an altitude of 2440 metres, this wildlife sanctuary is the perfect spot for a weekend retreat. There is a wildlife resthouse in the reserve and is accessible by jeep from Lakarmandi. A number of villages are also set up in the reserve, mostly tribal dwellings that have been for ages. The high altitude and low temperature means that the sanctuary has one of the most serene views you can get from Dalhousie. Kalatop is located just 9 kilometres away from G.P.O.
