In the cold regions of Uttarakhand, there lies a Utopia known as Chopta. It is a nature’s wonder lying in the lap of the Uttarakhand Himalayas. It is 2680 ft long elevated from the sea level. The Chopta is surrounded by forest and is rich in flora and fauna. You might even get lucky and see many animals wandering in the open forests like musk deer, rare species of birds, and many other beautiful creations of God. It is quite popularly known as the Mini Switzerland due to the heavy snowfall in that area. Chopta can be reached by two way- 1)From Rishikesh via Rudraprayag, Kund, Ukhimath and 2)Via Rudraprayag, Karnprayag, Chamoli, Gopeshwar. Many tourists visit throughout the year since it cold in all months which attract people the most. The morning view of Chopta is quite fresh and offers peace and tranquillity to the mind, heart, and soul when the first shaft of the sun touches the snow laden Himalayas. The Chopta is 29 km away from the Ukhimath and 450 km from Delhi. The most mesmerizing experience of Chopta is when its cold breeze touches your skin in the morning.

The Valley Of Flowers
In the midst of the trek to Chopta, there is a place worth being named as a paradise-on-earth is the “valley of flowers”. UNESCO has recognized this valley of flowers as a world heritage site. The valley is surrounded by beautiful pink, yellow, white, and many more colorful flowers. The trek to valley of flowers is at an altitude of 3,300 meters to 3650 meters; a trek which is easy and can be enjoyed with all age group of family. It is really an exhilarating experience when you are engulfed
by the colorful flowers.
The Chopta is quite rich in terms of culture since it has a strong mythological background. People here celebrate a lot many festivals such as Nandadevi-mela, Basant Panchami, Makar Sankranti, etc. People do celebrate festivals in traditional ways as our ancestors used to do. In the local region of Chopta, Gadhwali and Hindi are two local languages spoken commonly. The people are very joyful, kind and helpful.
How to reach
Chopta is by far well connected by roadways. There are also a few buses and taxis available to travel from the airport to the destination.
How to Reach by Flight
The nearest airport to Chopta is Jolly Grant Airport which is situated in Dehradun 226kms away. The remaining journey has to be covered either in a taxi or in a bus. There are many taxis available for going to Chopta.
How to Reach by Train
From Rishikesh, you can take a train as it is the nearest trailhead to Chopta at approximately 209 km. The frequency of every day trains is not much as well.
How to Reach by Bus
Not many buses are available to Chopta, but you can get a bus to Ukhimath and then later take a cab or a taxi to Chopta.
How to Reach by Road
Chopta is well connected by roads with the major part of Uttarakhand state. Chopta is situated 40 km from Ukhimath. One can drive quite swiftly and can reach his/her destination in time without any difficulties.
How to travel within
The best way to travel within Chopta is by a cycle or a bike. But you can travel by taxi as well.
Food is the main element which will enhance your experience and will boost you up for your ventures. There are many hotels and restaurant in the surrounding. The Punjabi thalis, south-indian dishes are easily available in many places. There are several cafes if you want to have a quick hot tea or coffee around.

You have to get start your journey early in the morning to take a flight to Dehradun. After reaching Dehradun you can take a bus to Chopta. The journey will be of 9 hours approximately. You will reach Chopta by evening. After that, you can get your accommodation in a nice hotel and take rest for the day after the long journey.
Get up early in the morning, have a fresh walk around the place and after having breakfast you can book a cab and go to Kanchula Korak Sanctuary and start your trek from there in the jungle of Kanchula Korak. You can go for jungle safari, also if you are not fond of trekking but want to take pleasure in sightseeing; head back to where you stay in the evening, or if you have any plans to camp, have all the necessary things ready with you.
After getting a good breakfast, you can pay a visit to the famous temple of Lord Shiva Tungnath temple and cover up the “Deoria Tal” lake as well. In the afternoon after lunch, you can start your trek from Tungnath and roam around for a while. In evening head back to the place where you are staying.
In the morning have a pleasant walk around the place and visit the market place. After having lunch pack your bags and head back to home. Taking the bus to Dehradun and flight back to your place, you will be home till night, reminiscing the memories of your amazing journey to Chopta.
