Chaukori Tourism

Chaukori is a hill station in the Pithoragarh district placed amidst the towering zeniths of the western Himalayan Range in the Kumaon Division of Uttarakhand, India. To its north is Tibet and to its south is Terai. The colourful hill station of Chaukori is one such area where the fantasists can set their visions into actuality. This snake temple is supposed to be established by the Nagveni King Beni Madhava. Travellers can also tour the Patal Bhuvaneshwar, which is roosted at an elevation of 1350 m above sea level. This temple, which is devoted to Lord Shiva, and can be reached by a tunnel-shaped cave. Chaukori is renowned for the Mahakali Temple, one of the prominent Shakti Peethas in India. The temple was preferred by Adi Guru Sankaracharya to install the Shakti Peetha, committed to the Hindu goddess Kali. Travellers can also tour the Ulka Devi Temple which is located close to the tourist rest house on the Pithoragarh Chandak motor road. Exquisite stone carvings of numerous divinities can be seen at the 'Ghunsera' Devi Temple. Kamaksha Temple and Kedar Temple are the other famous shrines of Chaukori.

How to reach

Though one can likewise take a flight and reach the nearest airport, which is located at (Pantnagar) and take a taxi from there to reach Chaukori. Roadways or train journey is exceedingly favoured choices of reaching here. Most of the popular towns and cities of the state are connected to Chaukori. 

How to Reach by Flight

Pantnagar Airport is the closest airport, to the town of Chaukori. From Chaukori the distance is approximately 250 kilometres. Pantnagar airport extends the availability of transport to several towns such as Chaukori, Bageshwar and Almora. Taxis are accessible at the airport; one can easily hire taxis to get to the place.

How to Reach by Train

The closest railway station to the town is positioned in the hamlet of Kathgodam. It is 198 Km away from Chaukori town. From the railway station, one can rent private cars or can get buses to reach Chaukori. 

How to Reach by Bus

Buses are accessible from neighbouring places like Haldwani and Almora. Besides the state buses, travellers can also take buses from other states of India such as Delhi and Nainital.

Chaukori Itinerary


DAY 01: Reach the spot early in the morning. After freshening up and having a delightful breakfast head towards the Patal Bhubaneshwari Cave Temple. After receiving the blessing there, head towards Nagmandir, Berinag, which is situated at a distance of 7 km from the city. Spend the day looking at the beauty of Himalayan ranges in the vicinity. Later in the evening visit the Arjuneshwar Shiva Temple which is located in the city's heart. Later in the night leave for your respective homes.
