Stilwell Road

#0 of 6 things to do in Changlang

Originally called the 'Ledo Road', it was constructed by soldiers of the allied forces during the second world war, under the direct supervision of General Warren Stilwell It starts from Ledo in Assam to Kunming in China. A great construction of history that cuts through Myanmar, to connect India and China. There are strong relationships between the Indo-Myanmar tribal communities living in the border area, who want the Stilwell road, that is barely used and absolutely inaccessible in the rainy season today, to be restored. Their desire to open up to Myanmar and south-west China is strong-willed, but the presence of several insurgent groups in the north-east prevents the center from taking the decision. It is a site of great historical significance and is a must visit.
