Jami Masjid

#6 of 8 things to do in Champaner-pavagadh

Built by Sultan Begada, Jami Masjid also known as Jama Masjid is one of the 114 notable monuments as listed in the Baroda Heritage Trust. It is located about 150 feet east of the city. It has a blend of Hindu and Muslim architecture. This mosque is one of the well-maintained mosques. The architecture has a central dome and is built over a high plinth and has two minarets each 30 metres. The entry gate of this mosque is fitted with jewels. It is very intricately designed and the walls are beautiful carvings. Out of the two minarets, one of them is damaged. It's not because of the age of the monument but because of an intentional gun firing in 1812 by Patankar who was a Scindia Governer. There is a lot of history in this place.
