Chausath Yogini Temple

Chausath Yogini Temple was built by the Kalachuri kingdomand is one of the oldest sites in India. The temple is dedicated to goddess Durga and is a residence for 64 yoginis, female attendants of goddess. There are more than 150 steps to reach the temple which is located at a hill top. It is located at a distance of around 5km from Jabalpur, near the Narmada River in Bhedaghat. The temple has a resemblance to the temples of Khajuraho and has a reflection of the ancient dynasties that rules Jabalpur. The temple was later destroyed by Mughal invaders.
