#1 of 5 things to do in Ayodhya

Ramayana expresses that river Sayaru's bank is the birthplace of Lord Rama. The seventh avatar of Vishnu, Lord Rama is accepted to be taken birth here. In the sixteenth century, Babur, the Mughal emperor constructed a mosque known as Babri Masjid where Rama took birth. The mosque is close to an extraordinary temple on 84 black touchstone columns built by Samrat Vikramaditya, thousands of years ago. The mosque was flattened to the ground in the year 1992 by a gathering of supporters who trusted that it was the sight of Lord Rama's origin to the world and a mosque had been built here by bringing down a temple. Presently the remaining parts of the Babri Masjid remain and with respect to the place of worship of Lord Ram it has again been opened for the general public after remaining shut for a timeframe.
