There can be hundreds of beautiful places in the world, yet there is something special about mountains, they seem so distant, so cold, but yet so beautiful and fascinating. This is what makes Aritar special. The entire place provides such a beautiful view of some of the most prominent Himalayan peaks that it seems no less than a dreamland. Full of lush forests, enchanting waterfalls, emerald lakes and amazing culture, Aritar makes for a perfect Holiday destination. Though little in size, it can have humungous memories to offer. 

It falls under Rangoli sub-division of East Sikkim in North East India. Sikkim already loaded with culture and beauty can be called the north east's darling, and it is due to such small but significant places like Aritar which make it the kind of paradise it is. This is the kind of place which can soothe any soul. The calmness, the pristine surroundings, the warmth of people and the beautiful places it has makes a trip to Aritar unforgettable. 

Very much like the rest of the Sikkim, there are quite a few monasteries in Aritar too. And what magic monasteries have, is a mystery to nobody these days. They are so soothing and peaceful that practically nobody wants to leave their premises!

There is an abundance of natural treats in Aritar. Near the eastern border of Sikkim, it has Mount Kanchenjunga on one of its sides. Thus, the entire town provides beautiful views of the peak. There is also a lot in store for adventure lovers as well. There are multiple trekking options available too. The place is so remarkably beautiful that it is also called a photographer's delight! The kind of pristine surroundings it has makes a lot of people wonder, especially those who are from ultra-urban places and lead a life amidst all sorts of pollution, stress and where everything is adulterated. How to reach

Aritar is located in Sikkim with a fair connection from the rest of India. One of the best ways is to reach Bagdogra and then head towards Aritar.

How to Reach by Flight

The nearest airport is in Bagdogra, which is around 113 kms away. It takes around 4-5 hours to reach Aritar from there. A lot of cabs and taxis are available for the next part of the journey.

How to Reach by Train

The nearest railway station is in Jalpaiguri, the Jalpaiguri railway station. From there it takes around 4-5 hours to reach Aritar. There are multiple cabs and taxis available to take you to Aritar. 

How to Reach by Bus

There are buses from Jalpaiguri to Aritar but they are very few in number.

How to Reach by Road

From Jalpaiguri, Bagdogra and Gangtok, cabs and taxis run to Aritar. 

How to travel within

There aren't many options. The best way is to see the tourist spots in the vehicle which you hired to reach Aritar.

Staying in Aritar

There are quite a lot staying options in Aritar owing to its popularity in Sikkim. The hotels have different price brackets suiting to everybody's needs. The people here are quite similar to Nepalese. In fact, it is the origin of some Nepali ethnicities as well. Thus, the culture here resembles their's a lot too. And, where cultures are similar, food habits are bound to be similar too. A lot of places in Aritar sell Momos in a lot of different styles and varieties. Currently, momos are a hot favourite among the Indians and tasting them here, at an altitude of 1498m, the very authentic taste makes it more delicious than ever!

Aritar Itinerary

Day 1:

  • Visit all the places in the town, starting with the Aritar Gumpa.
  • Next head towards the prime attraction of the area, the Lampokhari Lake. Go for a boat ride there and enjoy some time close to nature.
  • Visit the historical Dak Bungalow and feel the very British piece of architecture. 
  • Next, seek blessings in Mankhim and enjoy the beautiful views it has to offer!

Day 2:

  • Choose a place to trek and spend an entire day trekking.
