Jallianwala Bagh

#5 of 9 things to do in Amritsar

One of the most historically important sites of independent India, and a scar left from the British rule, Jallianwala Bagh is a must visit for nationals and foreigners alike. The site was witness to the massacre of peaceful celebrators and a memorial was constructed here to mark the incident. A number of structures are present in this 6.5-acre garden including the well into which many jumped to save themselves from the bullets. Bullet-riddled walls are still maintained as it is to serve as a reminder of the dire history where almost 1000 innocents lives were taken. A memorial plaque is placed at the entrance describing the importance and story of this garden.
