Gurudwara Mata Kaulan

#3 of 9 things to do in Amritsar

The Gurudwara, located to the west of Golden Temple, is dedicated to Mata Kaulan. Mata Kaulan, or Bibi Kaulan, was a Muslim woman who converted to Hinduism and took tutelage under Guru Har Gobind. Disowned by her father, she spent the rest of her days serving religious duties and devoted to the Guru. Bibi Kaulan’s Kirtans are much celebrated and still remembered by the Sikh community. The memorial temple was built right next to the first tank in Amritsar, Kaulsar Sarovar, where devotees wash their feet before entering the temple surroundings. The temple is covered in white and well maintained. The beautiful surroundings are perfect for an evening of thought and meditation.
