Situated in the beautiful Aravalli Range, above the town of Alwar is Bala Quila Fort or popularly known as Alwar Fort. The fort signifies the strength of the King and was built in the 15th century by Hasan Khan Mewati. The fort has been under many rulers. The fort is where the formation of Alwar city began by Rajpur Pratap Singh in 1775 AD. The fort boasts of six gates, Jai Pol, Suraj Pol, Laxman Pol, Chand Pol, Krishen Pol and Andheri Gate, named after rulers. Every wall of the fort narrates the story of its brave protectors.

The architecture of this fort is marvel worthy. It is built in Indo-Islamic style and walls are finely crafted with ancient scriptures and sculptures. There are many buildings inside the august complex which add to the royalty and charm. They include Jai Mahal, Nikumbh Mahal, Salim Sagar Pond, Suraj Kund and 15 temples, namely Sita Ram temple, Top Wale Hanuman Ji Temple and Chakradhari Hanuman temple. This place is one of the best places to visit in Alwar.
