#5 of 12 things to do in Ajanta and ellora caves

Located less than a kilometre from Ellora caves, the Grishneshwar temple is of the 12 Jyotirlinga Shrines mentioned in the Shiva Purana. Situated about 30 kms from the city of Aurangabad, the temple is an important pilgrimage site in Shaivism tradition of Hinduism, attracting a number of pilgrims, locals and tourists throughout the day. Constructed in South Indian architecture style, the temple is built out of red rocks and is composed of a five-tier Shikara. Being the smallest Jyotirlinga temple in India, the temple has a court built on 24 pillars. These pillars are carved exquisitely with the different legends and Mythologies of Shiva.
