Navratri, the festival of lights is an illuminated and illustrious festival of lights for people all around the nation spanning 9days. The significance and ways of celebrations might differ but the jostled spirits of all the citizens remain the same. Right from Bengal to all the fragments of Gujarat, from Himachal to Chennai, Navratri, Durga Pujo and Dussehra(Vijay Dashami) celebrated with unparalleled fervour. Here are Ten Places you need to visit to engulf the true essence of Navratri. 

 

1. United Way of Baroda, Vadodara

Swing to the cultural Garba songs sung by Atul Purohit in United Way of Baroda. A much prominent place in the city of Vadodara, youth enjoy playing Garba in their traditional outfits of chaniya-choli and kediyu-dhoti. Passes for the same are sold out months before and the dancers and the spectators enthusiastically enjoy the nine days of celebrations

2. Bagbazar, Kolkata

Like Ganesh Chaturthi is to Mumbai, Durga Pujo is to Kolkatta. The splendid architecture of pandals and the beautiful Durga idols stand well decorated in close vicinities of Kolkatta. Pandals open from the 6th day of Navratri (Sashthi) and accept visitors till the 9th Day (Navami). Bagbazar in Kolkatta has as one of the oldest and stunning Pandals.

Millions of pilgrims undertake a trip to Vaishno Devi Temple in Jammu during the Navratri festivals. Delhi, a multicultural place celebrates Navratri with various organizations organizing Daniya-Ras, Garba nights and Durga Puja Pandals. Moreover, the annual staging of Ramleela in Ramlila Maidan, where the scenes of Ramayana are enacted is a praiseworthy destination to visit. On the tenth day the structure of Ravana is burnt with two other structure and the blazing flames portray the triumph of good over evil.      

 

7. Mysore Palace, Mysore

The grandeur of Mysore Dasara or Nadahabba is unprecedented and spans over all the nine days of Navratri. The festivities are celebrated with ardent devotion to Goddess Chamundeswari. The busting exhibitions, fairs and decorated Mysore Palace is like a visual treat. You can visit nearby exhibitions and fairs while on your trip to Mysore during Navratri

8. Tamil Nadu

Tamilians usually seek devotement to the three Goddesses- Durga, Laxmi and Saraswati. The tradition involves setting up of idols and toys of clay and wood which are worshipped by putting them up on the dais which is popularly known as Golu. Moreover, relatives are invited and they’re presented with gifts and enjoy homemade sweetmeats.     

 

9. Punjab

Punjabis are ardent Durga devotees and they dedicate the nine nights to jagraans, bhajans and fasts. Maa Shakti is being worshipped and on the eighth and ninth days, nine young girls are invited and presented with gifts. The nine girls are a representation of nine forms of Maa Shakti and so the offerings are made to them.
